  • The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin

    • Sevag: Just about the best mystery I've read in my life! There is some action, but it mostly focuses on the big mystery-- which is about Sam Westing's will which gives clues to who his murderer is. Lots of suspense, some sad parts...and in the end...

  • Forgotten Fire by Adam Bagdasarian

    • Sevag: It's about a boy named Vahan who goes through a series of obstacles trying to survive the Armenian Genocide. Lots of traumatic parts that might even make you cry. Definitely a must-read book!

  • Eggs by Jerry Spinelli

  • Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers

    • Mr. D.: Sure, there are some graphic parts, but this is a young adult book about the Vietnam War! The battle scenes are intense. This is not for the faint at heart, but it's worth the read. War is not glorious when you're in it.

  • Dear John by Nickolas Sparks

    • Renee: John Tyree, an army enlistee, fell in love with Savannah Lynn Curtis while he was on his leave. But it was time to go back to Germany(where he is stationed), he and Savannah communicated with letters. And when there were only weeks for them to be together again, John reenlists in the army due to 9/11. Once he returned home, John realises that Savannah, who is now married, is his only true love-and forces himself to make the hardest decision of his life.

  • Who Stole The Wizard of OZ? (by:Avi) The Wizard of Oz missing from the local library. When Becky is accused of stealing it, she and her brother Toby set out to catch the real thief and prove her innocence.

  • Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen

    • Amanda: Sarah Dessen has written many amazing books and you should definitely read Lock and Key because in this book the way Sarah wrote the story makes it seem like it happened in real life. In this book Ruby is abandoned by her mother and is sent to live with her sister and brother-in-law. At first she hates it there and tries to run away the first night, but then she gets used to living with her and even though she misses her old life she's getting used to her new one.

  • Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson (signed copy)

    • Mr. D.: Since Anderson's Speak is one of my favorite YA books (and the complete opposite of my other favorite, Stargirl), I was excited to read her newest. Wintergirls is a troubling, sometimes painful book about Lia, a girl who is anorexic and haunted - literally - by her best friend's death. Lia and her friend desperately wanted to be thin and it led both down different and dangerous paths. Although the first-person narration is engaging and poetic, I noticed the book doesn't have the humor that is sprinkled throughout Speak. However, because the book deals honestly with food disorders (and cutting), it is an important book to read in this appearance-obsessed world of middle school. You will care for Lia as she struggles to make sense of her life, and you will hold your breath at the climax.

  • Just Listen by Sarah Dessen

    • Amanda: This book is one of my favorite books by Sarah Dessen. This book is about a girl,Annabel, who's a teenage model that's abandoned by her best friend,Sophie. Annabel used to be really popular, but Sophie spread rumors about her so none of her old friends are talking to her. Another problem is Annabel's really worried about her sister,Whitney, who almost died from anorexia. This book is funny, sad, and has a lot of drama at the same time. A must-read book!

  • 13 Reasons Whyby Jay Asher

    • Jacquelynn: Hannah Baker had just committed suicide and clay just found 13 tapes that explained why. He does not know why he is on them but is in for a big surprise. This book is a intense, sad, disturbing, and even sometimes funny book. It will make you laugh, cry, and even say ewwwwww! Out of 1-10 its definitely a 30!
